FAQs

Q:  How much will Drivers Education Cost?

A:  The Safe Way Driving School is currently $310.00 for the required 36 hour Driver Education Program. We have flexible payment plans that allow a student to register with a deposit of one-half and complete the classroom portion, then pay the balance prior to the start of the behind-the-wheel sessions.  We also offer online registration for our Drivers Education Program.  For in-person registration, you can download the form, complete it, and bring it to the office to complete the registration process.

CAUTION: After you register, some schools charge additional fees to retake the classroom test, use of classroom books or cancellation of your scheduled behind-the-wheel appointment. At the Safe Way Driving School, we have never charged additional fees to retest, use books or for emergency cancellation of your scheduled appointment. We will even give you a pen and some paper when needed. Ask other schools about other charges.

Q:  Where is the SWDS located?

A:  The SWDS has two locations, our primary office and classroom is at 3847 Branch Avenue, Temple Hills Maryland. We are located inside the Iverson Mall Shopping Center. The Bojangles Restaurant is out front. The best way to reach us is to drive up the side ramp by Burlington Coat Factory, park on the back parking lot close to the middle of the lot and enter through the middle doors. After you have entered through the middle doors, come up one flight of steps, turn left, and you'll find us in Suite 101. If you get lost, ask for the PRO-50 Security Office.

Our other branch is at 10709 Indian Head Highway, Fort Washington, Maryland. We are located inside the YMCA building. The YMCA is at Tantallon Center at Indian Head and Fort Washington Road. Park on the lot in front of the YMCA.

Q:  Is transportation provided?

A:  Transportation is not provided for classroom participation. However, at the Iverson Mall location, both Metro and “The Bus” run from 6:00 AM to 10:00 PM at night with pick-up and stops on Branch Avenue, Iverson Street and the Forman Mills side of the Mall. Several buses go back and forth from the subway. Please call for a schedule if you need public transportation. We will pick you up for your driving appointments at no extra charge, provided you reside in our service area. This includes home, work and/or school.

Q:  How old do I need to be to enroll in the Drivers Education class?

A:  Students need to be at least 15 years and six months of age to enroll. You must be 15 years and 9 months to take the MVA test for your Learners Permit. You can complete the required 30 hours of classroom time, but must have your learner’s permit for your on the road training.

Q: How difficult is it to master parallel parking?

A:
Good instruction helps. Learning to parallel park is relatively easy following guidance from our licensed driving instructors. The Safe Way Driving School method has proven to be helpful with students taking the MVA Road Test.

Q:  What other services does the SAFE WAY Driving School provide?

A:  We provide THE FOLLOWING ADDITIONAL SERVICES FOR ADDITIONAL FEES.

  • Additional Behind-the-Wheel Instruction (BTW) for those needing additional practice after completion of the required six hours.
  • Use of our vehicle for the MVA Road Test. Some students prefer the vehicle that was used as part of the driver education program.
  • Remedial or Refresher driving for individuals that are nervous, needing to improve skills or having trouble with one aspect of driving, such as the fear of changing lanes.
  • Court, law enforcement or MVA required Driver Improvement Program (DIP).

Q:  How do I get my certification for the MVA Road Test?

A:  Driving Schools no longer issue paper certificates. Once you complete the thirty-six hour program and any additional requirements, your completion is required to be electronically submitted to the MVA within forty-eight hours. You must go online to schedule your test at any MVA testing location in the State of Maryland.

Q:  What if I have additional questions.
